A funeral service for one Emanuel Edmond was yesterday disrupted at the St. John Maroon Church along Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown, when, according to eye witnesses, mourners attending the service pounced on a man for allegedly carrying a “witch gun” with the intention of harming the deceased’s sister.
Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone has issued a statement raising concern over police killing of a man believed to be a US citizen of Sierra Leonean origin.
Police say the deceased was brandishing a light weapon in the full glare of the public along Lumley beach in the west of Freetown, creating panic amongst people.
The commission’s statement, released on 29 May 2013, says the SLP was courageous to have owned up to killing the man.

The case before Justice Babatunde Edwards of the Appeals Court between AfriMedia and the Independent Media Commission risks being thrown out again after it suffered the same fate at the High Court on procedural grounds.
State counsel acting on behalf of the IMC, Lahai Momoh Farmah raised a preliminary objection to the notice of appeal, pointing out that “the manner in which the matter came before the court is irregular and the notice of appeal fatally defective and cannot sustain subsequent proceedings of the matter”.

Attorney General and Minister of Justice says the constitutional review process is in progress, adding that in principle it started in December 2008 when Dr. Peter Tucker met with president Ernest Bai Koroma on the planned review.
Franklyn Bai Kargbo told journalists in Freetown that one of the provisions of the Lome Peace Accord that ended the war in 2002 and a recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was to review the 1991 Constitution. He said work proper could start in the next two weeks.
