Police officer faces dismissal in Kenema

The Kenema Police Tribunal has recommended the dismissal of Constable Desmond Lewis currently standing trial in the Kenema Magistrate court on human-trafficking allegations.

Desmond and a nurse, Christiana Alpha are expected to make their first appearance in the High Court Kenema where the matter had been committed by the resident Magistrate Momoh Jah Steven.

56 journalists killed in 6 months

In its report covering the first half of 2013, the Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) covering the first half of 2013 says that fewer journalists were killed as compared to the same period last year, but that more journalists were kidnapped.

In six months, since January, 56 journalists were killed in 23 countries as compared to 75 during the same period last year, representing a reduction of 25 percent, a release from PEC states.

17 charged for corruption in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s anti-graft agency has charged seventeen people who it says will soon be arraigned before a High Court in Freetown for corruption offences.

At a press conference the Anti Corruption Commissioner, Joseph Kamara read out the charges which include the misappropriation of public finds, fraudulent reduction of customs charges, corrupt transaction with agents and bribery.

No election at FBC, IPAM, COMAHS

The Public Relations Officer of the University of Sierra Leone has disclosed that the administrations of the constituent colleges of the University have decided to "postpone indefinitely" the conduct of students' union elections originally scheduled for June.

Speaking to Politico, Lola Aforo said that "as much as the administrations want students' governments to exist, we can't afford the losses that come with their elections."

In Kenema, wife "bites husband to death"

A 45-year-old man who was assaulted and bitten on his right hand by his wife Jattu at IDA Section in Kenema has died. Mohamed Alieu was assaulted on the 24th June, 2013, and died six days later at the Kenema Government Hospital.

According to the late man's senior wife, Mamie Mohamed, her husband was very sick and speechless a day after the assault by her co-wife.
